Baldrys Road - Motorcycle Safety Levy
- Project typeRoads, Streetscapes and Footpaths
- Project value$335,490
Overview
The objective of this project is to improve motorcyclist safety on this section of Baldrys Road between Purves Road and Mornington-Flinders Road. This section has been identified as a dangerous site for motorcyclists due to the following factors:
- Roadside hazards: Several roadside hazards located on the outside of the roadway on the outer edge of the roadway, which are a risk for motorcyclists to strike should they exit the carriageway on this curve.
- Signage: The existing Chevron Alignment Markers (CAMs) are in poor condition and do not appear to have been installed at the correct location and spacing as required in AS1742.2, reducing their effectiveness at guiding motorists through the curve
- Gravel: Gravel is being spread from 10 critical driveways on Baldrys Road between Purves Road and Mornington-Flinders Road which presents a destabilising risk for motorcyclists.
Proposed treatments
To address these issues, the following treatments are proposed:
- Install road safety barriers.
- Replace the existing CAMs with new CAMs
- Replace sub-standard guardrail and terminals
- Install bellmouth seals at 10 critical driveways.
- Install Audio Tactile Centre Linemarking
- Install warning signs on both approaches to the picnic area.
