Welcome to the Mornington Peninsula. Congratulations on choosing to live in our wonderful part of the world.

At the Mornington Peninsula Shire, our aim is for our community to be proud of where they live and the work we do. We provide over 100 community services that support the wellbeing and prosperity of our entire community.  We have a unique mixture of urban areas, rural land, hinterland and coastal townships. Our region is strategically important to the whole of Victoria. We have a diverse local economy including tourism, agriculture, retail, a manufacturing, construction and business services.

The Peninsula is home to one of Australia’s most vibrant tourism industries, with around 7.5 million visitors annually, and a Gross Regional Product of $9.6 billion.

We manage $3.4 billion worth of assets. Prudent financial management and good governance are key to our success.

Our region is undergoing a transformation, driven by population, demographic and economic changes. And with that comes many challenges. Infrastructure is trying to keep up with population and visitor growth. We constantly balance the natural environment and biodiversity, rural charm and character while supporting agriculture, farming, tourism and recreation.

We strive to maintain, retain, preserve and celebrate the unique character of our 42 individual townships and villages. We continue to work to protect the Green Wedge – a key aspect of the Peninsula’s character that is crucial to the lifestyle and wellbeing of our residents and visitors.

Constrained budgets, an aging population and addressing significant areas of disadvantage means we are being challenged to do more with less. And we are up for the challenge!

The work we do is multi-faceted to meet the needs of our growing and diverse community. We want the best for every resident, rate payer, business and visitor.
