Club Development and Support
The Shire manages sports facilities across the Peninsula for a wide range of sport activities.
This page includes information for sports clubs, including club development, our services, and the processes to help you manage, maintain and operate your facility.
Sports Club Management Policy
The Sports Club Management Policy, adopted in August 2023, aims to guide the management of community sports clubs, with a strong focus on promoting gender equity, accessibility, and fair and equitable fee structure. The policy reflects the evolving landscape of community sport on the Peninsula, particularly noting the significant growth in junior and women's sport participation. It prioritizes creating equitable and inclusive sports facilities that are accessible to all community members. By emphasizing gender equity, the policy aligns with broader initiatives to increase women's participation in sports at all levels, including playing, coaching, officiating, and leadership roles.
Becoming a good sports club
Good Sports helps clubs to create a healthy, thriving, inclusive club culture, and will equip your club with all the free tools, resources and support you need to build a club culture that’s a real winner.
Good Sports has been proven to reduce harm and positively influence health behaviours, as well as strengthen club membership and boost participation.
The Good Sports program is implemented voluntarily through community sporting clubs, helping clubs to promote healthier, safer and more family-friendly environments. Please visit for more information.
Support for operating a club
Clubhelp has been developed by the Victorian State Government and Regional Sport Victoria as a "one stop shop" for local sporting clubs. This resource aims to assist with all elements of club operations including club management, finances (including grants and sponsorship), volunteering, marketing and governance.
VicSport aim is to get as many people in Victoria engaging in sport and physical activity as possible. They are the peak body for sport and active recreation in the state and work closely with the Victorian Government to promote the many benefits sport has to offer.
The Australian Sports Foundation was established by the Federal Government with the mission to raise money for Australian sport by helping sports fundraising gain tax-deductible status.
Grants and funding
There are a broad range of opportunities for community sport and recreation organisations to attract funds for projects, events, equipment and other initiatives. Some grant programs can only be applied for by Council and may require matching funding contributions.
Please visit the Funding Finder portal where you can search for all relevant grants and funding from local, state and federal governments as well as philanthropic grant programs.
Mornington Peninsula Shire offers annual community grants and funding programs that seek to support projects, programs and services that benefit the local community.
- Community Support Grants
- Youth Encouragement Grants
- Community Placemaking Grants
For larger scale projects, Community groups also have the opportunity to make a submission for funding through Mornington Peninsula Shires annual budget. Further details, including how you can make a submission can be found on the budget page.
Please ensure that you discuss your proposed project with the Shire prior to making any funding submission for works on Shire-owned land or other assets. A good starting point is to simply ask a question and we will get back to you.
