Advocating for housing and homelessness

In December 2024, the Shire supported the Southern Women’s Action Network (SWAN) to host a meeting with Harriet Shing, Victorian Minister for Housing, to progress our advocacy for homelessness, family violence and the urgent need for crisis accommodation on the Mornington Peninsula.

The Shire highlighted to Minister Shing we need our fair share of funding to meet local need, including investment in social housing and more support services for our homeless community and reinvestment of the short stay levy locally.

Key stakeholders included Tom McIntosh MP, representatives from our three local community support centres, Fusion, Committee for Frankston and Mornington Peninsula, Women’s Community Shelters, Rotary, Peninsula Advisory Group for Elders (PACE) and Peninsula Community Legal Services.
