About Our Strategic Direction

Every day, we work to make the Mornington Peninsula a great place to live, work and visit. To do that well, we need a clear direction, shaped by community input, informed by data and experience, and focused on both present needs and future challenges. This includes our recently adopted Council Plan 2025–2029(PDF, 6MB) and Public Health and Wellbeing Plan 2025–2029(PDF, 14MB), which sets Council's strategic direction for the coming years.

Why we plan

Life on the Peninsula is always changing. Our population is growing, our infrastructure is ageing, and we’re facing new challenges like climate impacts and cost-of-living pressures.

To respond to these changes, we plan ahead. Our strategic plans help us stay focused, use our resources sustainably, and invest where it matters most. They also make sure we meet our legal obligations.

How we plan

Our planning connects the community’s long-term vision with clear, practical actions.

Under the Local Government Act 2020, we align all strategic plans with our Community Vision and use an integrated approach to monitoring and reporting. This helps us stay focused on shared priorities and keeps the community informed about our progress.

What guides us

This page brings together the key plans and strategies that guide our work, from long-term community aspirations to short-term actions. Explore our strategy and planning documents by navigating these five categories:

  • Setting our direction – what we’re working towards and how we’ll get there
  • Resourcing our future – how we fund, plan and manage our services and assets
  • Understanding our community – what we know about our region and community
  • Delivering on our plans – the projects that bring our strategic direction to life
  • Tracking our progress – how we track progress and report back to our community

Key plans and reports
