Once your application for citizenship is approved, the Department of Home Affairs will send successful applicants an invitation to a citizenship ceremony in the Mornington Peninsula Shire.
Your Invitation
The Department of Home Affairs will send you an invitation approximately 4 weeks before your ceremony.
Your invitation will include the following information:
- ceremony date and location
- paperwork you must bring for identification purposes (your invitation and photo identification)
- RSVP details – this will include who to contact and how many guests are permitted.
The day of your ceremony
It is important to arrive with plenty of time for registration and identification checks.
Registration:
New citizens can attend from 5.50pm and should bring a copy of:
- Their invitation from the Department of Home Affairs
- Photo identification (drivers licence or passport).
Ceremony Start Time: 6.30pm
Ceremony End Time: 7.45pm approx.
Guests
Attendance at citizenship ceremonies is by invitation only and not open to the general public.
The number of guests permitted will be outlined in the invitation provided and should be confirmed in your RSVP.
Babies and small children who do not require their own seat are permitted to attend in addition to your allocated guests.
Dress Code
We encourage smart casual attire or national/traditional/cultural dress.
Children becoming Australia Citizens
Children under 16 years of age do not need to show identification.
If children are in attendance they must be accompanied by the main applicant.
The main applicant may accept the citizenship certificate on behalf of their dependent (who is not required to be in attendance).
