Community satisfaction survey

Since July 2023, Metropolis Research has conducted Mornington Peninsula Shire Council’s independent Community Satisfaction Survey. Face to face and phone Interviews were conducted biannually across all parts of the municipality, resulting in a combined annual survey of 804 residents.

2026 results

Overall satisfaction with the Mornington Peninsula Shire rose to 6.4, up from 6.3 in 2024-25. This latest score marks a considerable improvement on our unusually low 2023 score of 5.0, highlighting a clear upward trend in our results over the past three years.

Our top performing service areas were:

  • Weekly garbage collection
  • Fortnightly recycling
  • Green waste collection
  • Local library services
  • Services for children from birth to 5 years of age
  • Community centres/neighbourhood houses
  • Recreation centres.

Of note are our improving results for sealed local roads. Satisfaction with sealed local roads rose 4 points to 5.7, from 5.3 in the previous year, which may reflect the 72% increase in road spending this year. Overall, these results show our community is responding positively to our efforts.

  • Public toilets
  • Maintenance and repair of unsealed local roads
  • Maintenance and repairs of sealed local roads. 

Satisfaction with aspects of Council performance.

  • Governance and leadership - average satisfaction with the eight included aspects of governance and leadership remained stable this year at 6.3 out of 10, or a ‘solid’ level of satisfaction.
  • Customer service – average satisfaction with six aspects of customer service remained stable at 6.7 out of 10, or a ‘good’ level of satisfaction.
  • Services and facilities – average satisfaction increased this year, up two points to 7.6 out of 10, which is a good level of satisfaction.
  • Planning for population growth – average satisfaction is down one point to 6.4 out of 10, which is a ‘solid’ level of satisfaction.
  • Planning and development – average satisfaction remained the same as last year at 7.4 out of 10 or a ‘solid’ level of satisfaction.

Top issues for people living in Mornington Peninsula

When asked to nominate the top three issues for residents of Mornington Peninsula Shire at the moment, the top three issues were:

  • road maintenance and repairs, including roadworks
  • traffic management, safety, policing and crime issues, and footpaths
  • environment, conservation and climate change.
