Our Beaches and Foreshores

With over 190 kilometres of coastline along Port Phillip and Western Port, the Mornington Peninsula Shire has a strong interest and long-standing commitment to being leaders in coastal planning and management. The Shire has developed a suite of coastal and marine management plans to guide the management and future of our coastlines.

Future of our foreshore

With 192 kilometres of coastline along Port Phillip and Western Port, we have a strong interest and long-standing commitment to being leaders in coastal planning.

The Pillars, Mount Martha

The Pillars is located within Mount Martha Foreshore Reserve between Deakin and Marguerita Ave, Mount Martha. The foreshore area including The Pillars is coastal Crown land owned by the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP), with Mornington Peninsula Shire having basic maintenance responsibilities as the delegated Committee of Management.

Coastal and Marine Management Plans

Mornington Peninsula Shire has developed a number of Coastal and Marine Management Plans to provide strategic direction and management objectives for our coast.

DEECA and Key Agency Coastal Projects

Coastal projects being delivered and undertaken by DELWP and other key agencies including coastal protective works and beach renourishment programs.

Coastal Advisory Groups

There are five Coastal Advisory Groups (CAGs) spread across the Mornington Peninsula. The CAGs provide key strategic advice to the Shire for the protection and enhancement of our coastal and marine environments.
