We are currently recruiting for both Business Trainee and Identified Business Trainee positions. As a trainee, you’ll work at the Shire for a 12-month program which will offer learning and development opportunities, the chance to expand personal and professional capabilities, while completing a Certificate IV in Business - a formal and recognised qualification, through a Registered Training Organisation.

The Shire’s Traineeship Program provides flexible employment and training opportunities for people wanting to build a career. The program is aimed at attracting:

  • School leavers
  • Adults entering or returning to the workforce, reskilling, or seeking a career change.

What should you expect?

The 12-month Traineeship Program is a full-time position. Participants in the program are supported every step of the way with opportunities to learn and grow on the job while completing a Certificate IV in Business - a formal and recognised qualification.

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible for a traineeship, applicants must:

  • Be aged 18 years or older and no longer at school.
  • Be able to meet citizen, residency, and visa requirements to undertake a traineeship.

  • Not have already completed a Certificate IV (or higher) qualification in Business or a similar field.

A criminal history check and Working with Children Check is also required prior to an offer of employment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it possible to get a copy of the handouts from the information session?

Yes. Please email employment.pathways@mornpen.vic.gov.au to receive a copy.

I did not attend the information session, will it affect my chances of being considered for the role?

Missing the Information session will not affect your ability to apply. Applications open on 20 October and our accepted through our Current Vacancies page.

Is there a minimum or maximum age limit?

The Traineeship Program is open to anyone aged 18 and over. We welcome applications from adults of all ages.

I have recently completed a degree, is this pathway right for me?

The Traineeship Program provides the opportunity to gain a Certificate IV in Business and is ideal if you are looking to explore a new career path. If your goal is to use your degree specifically within local government, we recommend keeping an eye on our Current Vacancies page for roles that align with your qualifications.

I have recently completed a Diploma in Business, can I apply?

Unfortunately, if you have already completed a higher-level qualification in the same field, we are unable to accept your application.
