Shout Out for the Peninsula

Federal Election 2025
In the lead-up to the federal election, we are highlighting some of our key projects that require federal funding and support.
At Council, we have a unique insight into the needs and priorities of our community - and a responsibility to do what we can to achieve local investment from other levels of government.
Advocating for our community's priorities
We are highlighting four projects that align with federal government responsibilities that will service an urgent need and deliver significant benefits to our community.
We are inviting candidates to meet with us to discuss how they can support these projects.
We will release a new video each week. Stay tuned, share the videos and shout out to your local candidates.
Community election forum
Moderated by Mayor Anthony Marsh, the Mornington Peninsula Shire hosted a community election forum on March 20, with the five candidates running for the federal seat of Flinders. There were over 200 community members in attendance and more than 7000 online views. We encourage anyone who missed it to watch the candidates in action in the recording below.
The election forum provided federal candidates an opportunity to present their vision and priorities for the Mornington Peninsula, address key community concerns and respond to audience-submitted questions.
Investment ready project list
We have prepared a list of investment-ready projects, including roads and footpaths, that our community needs.
We have shared this list with all federal candidates and are inviting them to meet with us to discuss how they can support these projects.

Pledge tracker
To help our community stay informed, we have reintroduced our pledge tracker, designed to monitor funding pledges made by candidates during the campaign. The pledge tracker ensures that commitments are:
- clear and in writing
- quantifiable in dollar terms
- specific to our local area
The pledge tracker aims to provide voters with an unbiased summary of what each candidate has pledged in terms of specific funding for the Peninsula and allows the progress of pledges to be tracked after the election.

Council wants to work with all candidates
We believe productive, bipartisan collaboration is essential for achieving the best outcomes for our community.
Council remains apolitical and committed to working constructively with whoever is elected to deliver meaningful results for our region.
We rely on residents, community groups and businesses to add their voice to ours, so the needs of the Mornington Peninsula are heard by those making decisions in Canberra.
