Accommodation businesses

Prescribed accommodation premises are premises where more than five persons (who are not part of the proprietor's family) are accommodated and must be registered with the Shire under the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008.

Premises which must be registered as prescribed accommodation include:

  • Residential accommodation
  • Hotels and motels
  • Hostels
  • Student dormitories
  • Holiday camps

Caravan parks

All caravan parks must be registered with the Shire in accordance with the Residential Tenancies (Caravan Parks and Movable Dwellings Registration and Standards) Regulations 2020. The Environmental Health Team monitors the standards which include Fire and Emergency Management, hygiene, sanitation and cleanliness of caravan parks and camping grounds in the Shire. 

Purchasing a caravan park

Before you purchase a caravan park you should:

  • Check with the Shire's Environmental Health Team to determine if the business has a current registration with Council.
  • Request a transfer inspection of the property to ensure the premises complies with the requirements of the Acts. This request should be in writing from your solicitor.
  • Check that the Park Emergency Management Plan is complete and up to date.

Once the business has been purchased, applicants must submit an Application for Transfer of Registration of a Caravan Park.

Setting up a new caravan park

The following guidelines can help you set up a new caravan park:

  • Contact Business Victoria for business advice and information 
  • Check with the Shire’s Statutory Planning Team that the correct permits are in place for the site.
  • Contact the Shire’s Environmental Health Team to discuss your proposal.

Renew a caravan park registration

Step 1. Review your renewal application

You will receive a renewal application by email. This renewal will include details of your registration. Please check all of these details to make sure that they are correct. If your details have changed, or there has been a changed in the number of sites in your park, the online form will allow you to enter the new details.

Step 2. Pay the fee and lodge your renewal application

In order to renew your registration, you'll need to pay your renewal fee and submit your application along with any changes to your details.

You can pay for and lodge your renewal online. Please note, in order to do this, you will need to know your registration number. This will be included on the renewal application you have received (e.g. CvP06/001).

The online form will prompt you to attach the information that is required for renewal of registration in the Caravan Park Regulations:

  • A current site plan of the caravan park
  • Current Emergency Management Plan
  • The most recent report Issued by a Fire Authority
  • Schedule of Works

The registration number for your renewal payment is on the top right-hand corner of your emailed renewal of registration form.

Step 3. Receive your Certificate of Registration

Once we have received your registration fee and your application for renewal, your application and information will be assessed by the Shire’s Environmental Health Team.

Once your application for renewal has been approved you will receive a Certificate of Registration for the new registration period which will expire on 31 December 2027.
