New Year’s Eve on the Peninsula: Stay safe and enjoy

As we head closer to New Year’s Eve, we’re working closely with Victoria Police and emergency services to support a safe, welcoming night for everyone across the Peninsula.

New Year’s Eve traditionally draws large crowds, particularly along our foreshores and in busy pedestrian areas. A range of targeted safety measures will be in place this year, with a focus on Sorrento Foreshore and some other high foot traffic locations.

There are no Shire-run events planned for New Year’s Eve. We’re asking everyone to be mindful of signage and directions from Victoria Police and on-site traffic controllers, and to look out for one another as we celebrate.

Key reminders for everyone celebrating

  • If a child is missing or lost, call 000 or speak to patrolling police immediately.
  • Call 000 or report to police if you witness violent or unsafe behaviour.
  • Victoria Police will be patrolling across the Peninsula, with Ambulance Victoria nearby.
  • Stay hydrated and plan ahead, including how you’ll get home, as phone networks may be busy.
  • Additional public transport services will be running on New Year’s Eve, including late-night buses across the Peninsula.
  • Please dispose of waste responsibly and treat others with care and respect.

Detailed information about safety measures by location, including Sorrento, Portsea, Rye, Dromana and Rosebud foreshores, as well as transport options and service updates, are available on our website: mornpen.vic.gov.au/newyears

Quotes attributable to Mayor Councillor Anthony Marsh

New Year’s Eve is a time to celebrate, reflect on the year that’s been, and look ahead with optimism. I wish everyone across the Mornington Peninsula a wonderful New Year and a happy, prosperous and safe 2026. Whether you’re celebrating with family, friends or visitors, I hope you all have a positive and memorable night.

As always, we encourage people to plan ahead, look out for one another and follow the directions of Victoria Police and emergency services so everyone can enjoy the evening safely. Our Council crews will also be out early on New Year’s Day to help ensure our foreshores and public spaces are clean and welcoming for locals and visitors.
