A reconfiguration of the Rye Western Camping area is to be undertaken to provide a higher standard of foreshore camping in the newly upgraded area.

The project involves the realignment and upgrade of campsites in Rye West including:

  • Realigned and larger campsites
  • Upgraded electrical and water connection points
  • New fire services
  • Increased gravel road width to allow for emergency services access
  • New landscaping and amenity planting

Works are now underway at the campgrounds with an anticipated completion of September 2025.

During the works period, access to the beach areas of the foreshore will be impacted. Access from Point Nepean Road through to the foreshore will be restricted due to the works activity area. A controlled pedestrian access point through the campgrounds from Point Nepean Road to the Bay Trail will be in place opposite Elgan Avenue.

The Bay Trail footpath will remain fully functional and open for the duration of works. Access from Whitecliffs to the Rye Boat Ramp will not be impacted.

Update: March 2025.
