Flinders Foreshore Pedestrian Safety

  • Project typeRoads, Streetscapes & Footpaths
  • Project value$55,000

Through community consultation of the Flinders Coastal and Marine Management Plan (CMMP), pedestrian safety was a high priority for the community. Resulting in multiple high priority actions to improve pedestrian access and safety being included with the CMMP.

The overall project includes construction of a connecting pathway to allow pedestrians to travel from Cook Street down to the pier area, including upgraded crossing points and carparking improvements.

Concept plans have been prepared that aim to utilise existing footprints and site layouts as much as possible to limit civil and project costs in improving pedestrian access and safety with the Flinders Foreshore. The plans have been consulted with the community including the Western Port South Coastal Advisory Group and the Flinders Community Association who are supportive of the proposed project and are assisting with exploring external funding opportunities to increase the likelihood of this project progressing to delivery.

In the 2025/26 financial year, funding has been provided to progress the detailed design of the project. Once the design is completed further funding will be sought for construction.

Status Update:

Various consultant quotations for detailed design have been received. Key challenges, including footpath construction on hilly terrain and in restricted space, have been discussed. The project is set to progress to the detailed design stage soon.
