Local Water Safety Plan
Keeping Our Community Safe on the Water
The Shire is proud to launch its Local Water Safety Plan a coordinated, community driven approach to reducing drowning incidents and helping everyone enjoy our stunning beaches, inlets and waterways safely.
Developed in partnership with emergency services, water safety experts and community organisations, the Plan sets a clear, evidence informed roadmap focused on prevention, preparedness and response.
At its core are three key priorities:
- Safer Aquatic Users – empowering residents and visitors through education and awareness
- Safer Aquatic Activities – driving innovation, partnerships and advocacy
- Safer Aquatic Environments – improving infrastructure and emergency response capability
From community education programs and inclusive workshops to expanded rescue equipment and smarter signage.
With annual reviews and a commitment to continuous improvement, the Plan is designed to evolve with our community’s needs and emerging risks
A strong focus on collaboration ensures local knowledge, cultural inclusion and community voices are at the heart of every initiative. With this in mind, the Cross Council Water Safety Framework has been developed in partnership with Bass Coast, Cardinia, Casey and City of Greater Dandenong Councils and endorsed by Life Saving Victoria.
Together, we can build a safer, more prepared and water confident Mornington Peninsula for locals and visitors.
