Moveable Advertising Sign Application

Any sign placed on Council land must be in line with the Community Amenity Local Law 2022(PDF, 1MB) and the Signage Policy(PDF, 238KB).

 

How to apply for a permit

Step 1.Read the following information

By applying for a Movable Advertising Sign Permit, you agree to comply with the terms and conditions and agree to comply with any relevant legislation or Council Policy which governs signage within the municipality.

Step 2.Apply for your permit

Permitted signs must:

  • be a maximum of 1.2 metres high and 0.9 metres wide
  • display a copy of the approved permit on the rear of the sign, clearly displaying all permit details
  • be securely weighted to prevent the sign being knocked or blown over
  • be of a contrasting colour to the background to assist people with vision impairment
  • not obstruct the safe access or line of sight of pedestrians or vehicles on a footpath or road
  • not be illuminated or have any moveable parts

The Mornington Peninsula Shire regulates signage on Council land under Clause 59 of the Community Amenity Local Law 2022(PDF, 1MB). Council’s Community Safety Team are responsible for assessing and granting permit applications, and any required enforcement action.

Signage to be placed on private land, eg real estate 'for sale' boards, must in compliance with the Planning Scheme and the Signage Policy.

Signage to be placed on land managed by a state authority, eg Department of Transport (VicRoads), must be referred to relevant authority.
