Think our roads are unsafe? Now’s your chance to make a difference!
Published on 18 March 2025
The Mornington Peninsula has seen far too many lives lost and injuries caused by road trauma. In the past 15 years, 105 people have been killed, and over 2,300 seriously injured.
But we’re not giving up on making our roads safer. Now, it's your turn to help us shape the future of road safety in the Shire!
Why your opinion matters
Crash stats are key, but they don’t tell the whole story.
We’re inviting the community to have their say on improving road safety across the Mornington Peninsula.
We want to know what you think. What roads feel unsafe? What sites need attention but aren’t showing up in the data? Your feedback will help us identify high-risk areas and push for the projects that matter to you.
This consultation is your opportunity to share your thoughts on some of the most dangerous roads and intersections in the Shire and help us prioritise future projects.
We’ve put together a list of high priority locations: roads and intersections with the highest number of crashes. But we want to hear more than just the stats.
We’re also working on several road safety projects that need your feedback. These projects could be eligible for funding through existing programs like the Federal Black Spot Program, the State Government’s Safer Local Roads & Streets Program (SLRSP), and the Motorcycle Safety Levy (MSL).
Your feedback could help us prioritise and secure funding for safety improvements that may not fit traditional criteria but still matter to you.
The goal: safer roads for all
We have the stats, but we need to hear from you.
The goal is to ensure that the community’s voice plays a central role in making our roads safer for everyone.
The feedback you provide will guide which projects we prioritise and advocate for, helping to make our roads safer and reduce future accidents. Together, we can save lives.
Take a few minutes today – your opinion could make all the difference.
How you can get involved
Community consultation is currently open and closes 11 April 2025.

Next steps: what happens after you have your say
Once we’ve gathered your feedback, we’ll compile the results and use them to create a prioritised list of road safety projects. This list will be brought to Council for approval in May 2025.
We’ll also advocate to local, state, and federal MPs to secure funding for the improvements that matter most to our community.
Quotes attributable to Mayor Councillor Anthony Marsh:
“We have the crash statistics data, but it’s your experiences that matter most. I encourage everyone to take part in this consultation to make sure we address all the road safety issues affecting our community.
“Together, we can make a real difference and ensure the safety of all those who travel across the Mornington Peninsula."
