Have you recently restored a heritage building? Maybe you’ve returned a monument to its former glory? Do you know someone who used their specialist heritage trade skills on a recent restoration?

Today is the perfect day to throw their name into the 2025 Heritage Awards!

This is a joint program of the National Trust’s Mornington Peninsula branch and the Mornington Peninsula Shire, which runs every two years. Our Heritage Awards honour those in the community, demonstrating excellence in helping to keep our local heritage preserved for the future.

Nominations for the Heritage Awards are now open.

This year we’re inviting nominations for consideration in five categories:

  • Restoration of a heritage place: have you recently restored a heritage building, landscape, wetlands, cemetery, monument, or heritage garden to its former glory?

  • Creative reuse of a heritage place: have you changed the current use of a heritage place and given it a different purpose?

  • Sustainability and/or greening of a heritage place: does your restoration demonstrate environmental sustainability?

  • Specialist heritage trade skills: are you a tradesperson who’s used specialist skills and traditional methods on a heritage place?

  • Excellence in interpretive signage: are you responsible for high quality signage that contributes to the heritage of our Peninsula?

Nominations close Thursday 15 May 2025. To nominate, visit mornpen.vic.gov.au/heritageawards

After nominations close, inspections of finalists will be held in the week starting 19 May 2025. Winners will be awarded on the evening of Thursday 3 July 2025.

Quotes attributable to Mayor Councillor Anthony Marsh:

"Reflecting on the 2023 Heritage Awards, it’s clear how much our community values its heritage. We recognised outstanding projects across buildings, memorials, wildlife habitats and public spaces! Each was a testament to the care and commitment shown by individuals and groups across the Peninsula. We also awarded four more awards for excellence in interpretation, sustainability, and service to a restoration.

"I look forward to seeing the 2025 nominees, who I’m sure will continue to raise the bar. If you or someone you know has contributed to preserving, reimagining, or interpreting a heritage place, I encourage you to submit a nomination."
