Earlier this year, we surveyed our community to find out how prepared they are for emergencies and natural disasters. Their responses helped inform our draft Community Disaster Resilience Plan, currently available for community to review and provide feedback on our Shape platform.

In recent years, the Peninsula has experienced severe storms, floods, bushfires, landslides and coastal erosion. These events have disrupted lives and livelihoods, damaged property, and impacted local businesses.

The draft Community Disaster Resilience Plan is a whole-of-community approach to strengthening resilience and preparedness for any disaster or emergency. The draft Plan outlines a shared commitment to support individuals, families, communities, and businesses to better prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters.

The draft Plan was shaped by local knowledge and community feedback, as well as best practice strategies. We’re now inviting our community to review the draft plan and provide any ideas or comments. Consultation is open until 30 September.

Go to mornpen.vic.gov.au/disasterplan to view the draft document and have your say.

Paper copies of the draft plan are available on request from our Customer Service Centres.

Quotes attributable to Mayor Councillor Anthony Marsh:
“Local government is often the first and most consistent point of contact in times of crisis. This draft Plan reflects our commitment to working alongside our community, preparing for, supporting, and coordinating response efforts, as well as advocating for those most affected. Please share your feedback to help shape this important Plan.”
