Annual Renewal: Domestic Animal Business registrations must be renewed before 10 April each year. A renewal form will be sent out to the proprietor before this date. Please ensure your contact details are kept up to date with the Shire.
Domestic Animal Businesses must be registered annually and comply with the appropriate mandatory Code of Practice and ensure compliance under the Domestic Animals Act 1994.
The Domestic Animals Act 1994 defines a Domestic Animal Business as:
(a) an animal shelter, Council pound or pet shop; or
(b) an enterprise which carries out the breeding of dogs (other than GRV greyhounds) to sell, if the enterprise has 3 or more fertile female dogs and the proprietor is not a recreational breeder; or
(c) an enterprise which carries out the breeding of cats to sell, if the enterprise has 3 or more fertile female cats and the proprietor is not a recreational breeder; or
(d) an enterprise which trains or boards dogs (other than GRV greyhounds) or cats for the purpose of profit; or
(e) an enterprise which rears or keeps dogs (other than GRV greyhounds) or cats—
(i) for the purpose of profit or sale; or
(ii) for a fee or for exchange of services;
The annual fee for a Domestic Animal Business Registration is $322.

Please allow 10 working days for your application to be processed.
You must provide details of your Insurance Policy and a Nominated Vet Agreement on your application form. The Shire has the authority to revoke the registration of a business if you fail to comply with the legislation and appropriate mandatory Code of Practice.
The Shire's authorised officers conduct inspections of Domestic Animal Businesses throughout the year. This is to ensure compliance with the relevant Codes of Practice and the Domestic Animals Act 1994.
