Gardens for Wildlife Garden Guide
Do you love our local plants and wildlife? Are you passionate about helping others discover and care for our natural environment? If so, why not become a Gardens for Wildlife Volunteer Garden Guide with Mornington Peninsula Shire?
The Gardens for Wildlife program is run in partnership with dedicated volunteers who are passionate about protecting our local environment and committed to supporting and educating others in wildlife gardening.
Volunteer Garden Guides will visit home gardens to inspire residents to create wildlife-friendly spaces. Through these visits, they help residents discover how their gardens can support the unique flora and fauna of the Mornington Peninsula.
Guides then prepare a follow up garden report for the resident summarising the key points of discussion and listing the planting and wildlife gardening recommendations. Not a big report writer? We use standard report writing templates that mainly require filling in the gaps! We also offer report writing workshops to help you get started.
If you have interest and/or knowledge on wildlife gardening that you would like to share with others, consider becoming a volunteer Gardens for Wildlife Garden Guide. Wildlife gardening and local plant identification training is provided but we do prefer our Garden Guides to be passionate about these topics to help protect our local critters!
The Shire’s Gardens for Wildlife program is based at The Briars in Mount Martha and the gardens you will visit are located Peninsula wide.
Applicants for this position will be required to apply for:
- Working with Children’s Check (no fee for a volunteer check)
- Police Check Applicants (paid for by MPS)
- Current Driver’s license and insurance
Volunteers must be willing to access various technological platforms including Microsoft Teams and My Impact, our Volunteer Management Platform.

- Please include a brief explanation about why you would like to become a Gardens for Wildlife volunteer and any additional interests or skills that you may be able to bring to the Team or as a Garden Guide.
- Applications close on 9 September 2025
- An information session and several training sessions will be held, with dates confirmed once recruitment is complete. These are expected to begin in early to mid-September, on Wednesdays at 10am.
