The impacts of climate change are already being felt, most recently illustrated by the 2019/20 bushfires and the extensive floods across eastern Australia (2021 and 2022). On the Peninsula, the increased frequency and intensity of storms has resulted in costly storm damage in October 2021, resulting in significant economic and social disruption.
The Peninsula experiences higher than average levels of disadvantage, making many at greater risk of climate change impacts. 22% of households fall within the bottom 20% of Australian incomes. 1 in 5 Peninsula residents live with a disability, 28.4% have two or more chronic diseases and 26.9% of our residents live alone.
