Open Spaces

We maintain most of the Peninsula’s open spaces to support sporting activities, encourage childhood development through play spaces and provide well-presented parks and gardens for residents and visitors to enjoy.

Every year, we work hard to...

  • Clean more than 30 km of the Peninsula’s beaches fortnightly.
  • Maintain more than 600,000 square metres of garden beds.
  • Mow more than 8 million square metres of open space areas (excluding roadside mowing and slashing which is managed under the Road Corridors contract).
  • Maintain 56 sports fields, 192 playgrounds as well as 4 bike parks.
  • Inspect and maintain 200 km of fencing and barriers, as well as 1,750 gates.
  • Maintain more than 3,900 signs across open space areas.

Some of the core maintenance we deliver:

  • Proactively test and service 32 main irrigation systems, including water testing and management.
  • Inspect and maintain more than 4,600 items of street furniture, including benches, tables, memorials and water fixtures.
  • Conduct programmed cleaning of beaches in some Port Phillip Bay areas.
  • Install, remove and maintain accessible beach matting.
  • Proactively inspect and maintain bike park facilities, including dirt tracks, sealed surface bike parks, and timber or other built structures.
