The Block

TV reality series The Block is coming to Mount Eliza and will begin filming in March.

Construction of five houses has already started, with traffic management in place around the site. Shire officers will work closely with the production crew to limit disruption, and we ask community and visitors to take care when travelling around the construction site.

The Block is expected to bring significant economic benefits to our region and will showcase Mount Eliza’s premium beaches and real estate.

Frequently asked questions

Where and when is The Block coming to Mount Eliza?

The Block for 2026 is located at 109 Old Mornington Rd, Mount Eliza. Construction work for the five houses has already started.

Filming is planned to take place over a 12-week period. Construction will continue up until approximately October.

What benefits will the project bring to Mount Eliza and the wider municipality?

The Block is expected to bring significant economic and promotional benefits to the region, including a major boost for local trades, suppliers and tourism. The production will showcase the suburb's premium lifestyle, coastal charm, and prestige real estate, likely increasing long-term demand and property values in Mount Eliza and the wider Mornington Peninsula municipality.

What is the Shire's role in the project?

The Block is on private land and therefore the Shire's role is limited to providing permits and enforcing regulations. We will provide planning approvals, such as planning and building permits, and enforce building regulations and compliance. Construction is managed by the contractors on site.

What hours will construction occur?

Construction hours will be between 7am and 6pm on weekdays, and 9am and 3pm on Saturdays.

There are also some additional minor construction being performed on the following public holidays, which will be restricted to internal works only.

  • Saturday 4 April (Easter Saturday) 9am–3pm
  • Monday 6 April (Easter Monday) 7am–6pm
  • Saturday 25 April (Anzac Day) 9am–3pm
  • Monday 8 June (Kings Birthday) 7am–6pm

No external works such as framing, cladding or concreting works will be undertaken, and no excavators or other earth moving machinery will be used on these days.

Will roads be affected and for how long?

A Traffic Management Plan is currently being followed, with traffic controllers in place to monitor a speed reduction to 40km/hr for all vehicles on Old Mornington Rd and assist with pedestrian movements around the site.

Will there be road closures or detours?

Traffic controllers may temporarily halt traffic as required for construction vehicle movements to and from site, but no long-term road closures are planned.

How will parking impacts be managed for residents and visitors?

Line markings have been recently updated to clearly indicate No Standing areas. Additional parking locations have been made available for contractors to minimise parking in side streets around the site. Traffic controllers will be on-site at all times during construction hours.

Who is responsible for ensuring compliance with permits and regulations?

The Shire is responsible for reviewing and approving planning and building permits, while builders/contractors are responsible for adhering to compliance on-site.

How can residents report noise or amenity concerns?

Residents can report noise complaints to the Mornington Peninsula Shire by calling 1300 850 600, emailing customerservice@mornpen.vic.gov.au, using the Snap Send Solve app, or visiting a customer service centre in person.

Will drones be used for filming, and if so, how will this be managed?

The Block holds a valid filming permit for public spaces managed by the Shire. The production is required to notify the Shire of filming activities occurring on Shire-managed land. Filming (including drone take-off and landing) on private land, Parks Victoria land, or land managed by a Committee of Management is subject to approval from the relevant landowner or management authority.

How will nearby residents be kept informed?

Nearby residents have been kept informed by letter drops from Nine in Six Builders and Nine. In those letters important information and key contacts have been shared.

How can I get further information?

We will update this page if needed during the course of construction.
