Rye & Tootgarook: Black spot program - Area Wide Safety Upgrade
- Project typeRoads, Streetscapes and Footpaths
- Project value$1.67 Million
The Shire is progressing the area wide safety upgrade of Rye and Tootgarook after receiving Federal Blackspot Funding which targets locations where speed related crashes are occurring.
The Shire has a strong commitment to road safety through our Mornington Peninsula Towards Zero 2020-2025 road safety strategy. The aim of the strategy is to create a safe road system for the community to reduce road trauma. An important part of road safety is having appropriate speed limits that are suitable for each road.
Project scope:
- Implementation of an area-wide 40km/h speed limit to the area highlighted in project area map except for Alma St, Field St and Weeroona St which will be kept at 50km/h due to being high volume roads.
- Installation of 40km/h signage and 40km/h road markings at all local street access points to the local area
- Installation of threshold treatments to further highlight the area wide speed limit at 12 key local street access points
- Installation of compact roundabouts with speed cushions at approaches
- Installation of speed cushions at 2 existing roundabouts
- Raised intersections
Project Status:
The project is currently in the planning stage. The Shire is working on producing detailed designs and prioritising locations to be delivered first.
Key Milestones:
- Finalisation of detailed designs – End of July
- Construction estimated to start – September 2023
