Author Event: Edwina Preston, author of Sororical and Bad Mother
Next date: Thursday, 21 May 2026 | 06:00 PM
Join us for an evening of feminist literary conversation covering gender, family, art and power as Dr Stephanie Wescott sits down with acclaimed Australian author Edwina Preston to discuss her new novel Sororicidal—a punk-gothic exploration of sisterhood, rivalry and revenge.
Set against the vineyards of early twentieth-century South Australia, Sororicidal traces the volatile bond between sisters Mary and Margot as it shifts from intimacy to something far more dangerous. In a world shaped by war, patriarchy and emerging ideas of female agency, their relationship becomes a site of both survival and destruction where love, resentment and cruelty are impossible to disentangle.
In conversation, Edwina will also reflect on her earlier work, Bad Art Mother (shortlisted for the 2023 Stella Prize and the NSW Premier's Literary Award) drawing connections between artistic ambition, motherhood and the fraught tensions throughout women’s lives and relationships.
This event will delve into the darker edges of sisterhood, the politics of care and competition, and the enduring questions at the heart of Edwina's work.
Bookings can be made via the Events page on our website.
