3.75 million disposable nappies are used each day in Australia and New Zealand. That is a lot of nappies in landfill!
Disposable nappies take up to 150 years to break down in landfill. The manufacturing of disposables uses finite natural resources and produce emissions that contribute to climate change.
Cloth nappies and reusable sanitary products are environmentally friendly alternatives; washed in full loads and dried on the line can help to minimise water and energy cost. Although reusables have a high upfront cost, they can save money over the long term.
Shire residents can apply for rebate on the eligible products outline in our terms and conditions.
Cloth nappies including reusable swim nappies and reusable nappy liners: 50% of total purchase price, maximum $100 rebate. For example, purchase $200 worth of cloth nappies to claim the $100 rebate.
Reusable sanitary products including reusable sanitary pads and cups and leak proof underwear: 50% of total purchase price, maximum $50 rebate. For example, purchase $100 worth of leak proof underwear to claim the $50 rebate.
