EXHIBITION DATES 1 - 30 March 2026

After two years, Greg Irvine is back at Aegean Designs Gallery Portsea with a stunning array of beautiful works.

This is an opportunity to see the work of a lifelong, successful professional artist. Seeing Greg’s vibrant work in real life is a special experience. His highly detailed, colourful and riotously patterned works are held in major public galleries. His works have been acquired for prestigious collections such as the Royal Collection of Buckingham Palace, the National Gallery of Australia, The Ian Potter Museum of Art and the State Library of Victoria.

Born in Melbourne in 1946, Greg studied at the National Gallery Art School in Melbourne from 1963-66. Since then he has worked continuously as a professional artist in a range of media including ceramics, figurative sculpture and painting. He worked as a set and costume designer for the Australian Ballet’s productions of The Fire Bird (1972) and Scheherazade (1980). He now focuses exclusively on painting, working every day in his South Melbourne studio. Greg has exhibited in France, Brussels, London, the USA, and every state of Australia. He is also held in private collections around the world.

We’d love you to visit our friendly gallery and hope you’ll find something to treasure for life.

GREG IRVINE ARTIST STATEMENT

Growing up in an artistic household, I was always surrounded by beautiful things. I have a driving force to be surrounded by beauty and to create it. I’m enchanted by beautiful vintage objects, both functional and ornamental, and I love to give old broken things a new life. By playing with different combinations of these objects, I find inspiration to create visual stories that are usually highly coloured, intricately patterned, and joyful. The challenge is to achieve a harmonious resolution despite and because of the vibrant intensity of my work.

I can’t imagine not painting every day. I’ve always been totally dedicated to my artistic practice, right from childhood to the older man I am now, and my dedication has never flagged. I’m totally disciplined and my work is the most important thing in my life.
