The Skate Park was initially constructed in 2004 and designed by Concrete Skateparks. The Shire’s current 2008 Skate and BMX Strategy identifies this facility as a local level skate park that is suited to more experienced skaters. The strategy recommends a future upgrade occur that also caters to beginners, includes additional street skate elements, and improves accessibility.

Council has been able to obtain a $1 million grant through the Victorian State Governments community sport and recreation initiative to deliver a skate park upgrade to the Mornington Peninsula. The project has recently transitioned into detailed design after the concept was adopted by Council in March.

The project will be delivered in two stages:

   Stage 1 upgrades include:

  • Skate elements suitable for beginners. The current park is great for advanced skaters but does not have much for those just starting out.
  • Street skate elements. There will be mini ramps, banks, blocks, manual pads and rails.

    Stage 2 upgrades include:
  • Access improvements, including a shared path from the skate park to the playground and accessible car parks
  • A new social area with seats and shade
  • Improvements to the adjacent playground.

A Tender Package for public advertisement is being prepared which will be released next month to seek quotes for construction of the Skate Park Upgrade.
