How to register for kindergarten

When can I register?

While you can register at any time, we encourage you to register on time to give you the best chance of securing a place at your preferred kindergarten.

30 June	On time registrations close
Late July	Round 1 offers (on time registrations)
Early August	Round 2 offers (on time registrations)
Mid-August	Round 3 offers – late resident registrations are included from Round 3
Early September	Round 4 offers – non- resident registrations not PoA are included from Round 4
End of October	Kindergarten providers to contact families to finalise enrolment
Registrations received after Round 4 will be processed fortnightly as vacancies arise. Dates may be subject to change.

Get your child into kindergarten in four steps

Getting your child into kindergarten is a simple process with four steps.

Step 1: Fill out a registration form

First, fill out an online registration form

If you need help to register, contact the kindergarten registration team at kindergarten@mornpen.vic.gov.au or call 1300 850 600 (Toll free) or 5950 1000

The form asks you for information about you and your child including:

contact details
which kindergarten you would like your child to go to (to choose the best kindergarten for you, we recommend that you visit kindergartens, attend open days and look at session times on the Mornington Peninsula Shire website)
any circumstances that might give your child priority access to kindergarten. For more information refer to the Kindergarten Central Registration and Enrolment Scheme Policy and Procedure(PDF, 242KB).

To complete the form, make sure you have:

proof of address like a utilities bill, rental agreement or rates notice with your family name and address (this must be where your child lives most of the time)
any concession cards

Step 2: Receive updates

Mornington Peninsula Shire will contact you by email when your child is offered a kindergarten place, or you are placed on a waitlist. If you need to update your contact details or preferences, please email kindergarten@mornpen.vic.gov.au

Step 3: Accept your offer

You have five days to respond to your kindergarten offer. If you are unhappy with your offer, you can decline and resubmit your preferences or withdraw your registration.

Step 4: Enrol at the kindergarten

Once you have accepted your offer, the kindergarten will contact you directly to confirm your enrolment and ask for more information about your child. You will need to provide copies of:

proof of identity such as your child's birth certificate, birth notice or passport (please speak to us if these are not available as a doctor’s note and/or Medicare card and/or Immunisation History Statement may be used as proof of identity in some cases)

proof of immunisation in the form of an Immunisation History Statement

any court orders relevant to the child

any concession cards

any evidence of Australian visas including ImmiCards

any evidence of additional needs such as documents from Family Support Services or a Maternal and Child Health nurse confirming high support needs and/or disability, or a letter from a doctor for complex medical needs

any medical management plans relevant to the child
