Project Summary

This project targets Eramosa Road East between Lower Somerville Road and Western Port Highway in Somerville. Key deliverables include road pavement upgrades, drainage upgrades, installation of road safety barriers at high-risk areas, and audio-tactile line marking.

These $2.8 million road works are fully funded under the Australian Government’s Roads to Recovery program. 

Construction works will commence in September 2026 and be completed before Christmas. Works are weather dependant.

Construction Impacts

Construction impacts may include increased noise from machinery and construction vehicles, temporary dust and vibration. These impacts will be monitored and managed throughout the project to minimise disruption to nearby residents and road users wherever possible.

 

Frequently Asked Questions

Will people who live along Eramosa Road East still be able to access their properties? 

Yes, however no right turn will be available from Westernport Highway into Eramosa Rd East.

 

Will there be times when access to driveways are restricted? How much notice will households receive if property access is temporarily affected? 

Yes at times there will be restricted access. We will notify households minimum 24 hours in advance.

 

What detour routes will be available? Will bus services be affected?

Somerville Secondary College 5206 Ventura will be affected. They have been advised.

How much extra travel time should I expect? 

10 minutes, depending on traffic conditions.

 

Will pedestrians and cyclists still be able to use the road? 

No. Pedestrian and cyclist access through the work area will be temporarily closed during the construction period for safety purposes. 

 

Will waste collection services continue as normal? 

Yes, there will be no disruption to your weekly kerbside collection service. 

You may notice collection time will vary. Please continue to present your bin kerbside the night before the day of your collection, it should be emptied by the end of collection day. 

If your rubbish bin was not collected, please call us on 5950 1000 or 1300 850 600 within 2 business days.

Our new trucks have a slower lift which closes the lid after releasing the bin. If you suspect the bin hasn't been emptied, please lift the lid to check before reporting.

What happens next: Leave your bin out in its usual collection spot. We'll come by to empty it.

Have emergency services been notified?

Yes. Emergency services have been notified of the planned works and will continue to have access through the area during construction. Traffic management arrangements have been developed to ensure emergency response times are not impacted and that access can be maintained if required.

Are there any impacts expected to utilities services?

No impacts to third-party utilities are anticipated as part of these works. All known utility services have been identified and considered during project planning. In the event that unforeseen utility issues are encountered during construction, Council and its contractors will work closely with the relevant service providers to minimise any disruption and restore services as quickly as possible.

Will postal services, tradespeople and visitors be able to access my property? 

Access to properties will be maintained during construction wherever possible. Residents, contractors, postal services and visitors will continue to be able to access properties, although temporary traffic management measures or minor delays may be experienced at times to ensure safe access for the community.
