You helped secure road safety funding last year – let’s do it again
Published on 03 March 2026
Last year, our community spoke up about dangerous intersections and risky stretches of road.
That feedback helped strengthen our funding applications. In the 2025-26 financial year we secured over $6 million in road safety funding. Projects include:
Safer Local Roads and Streets Program Projects:
- Mount Eliza Woodlands (Local Area Traffic Management)
- Marcia Avenue, Rye (Local Area Traffic Management)
- Keogh St and Potton Ave Rosebud
- Heales St & Hodgkinson St Dromana
Black Spot Projects:
- Forest Drive, Mount Martha
- Browns Road / Jetty Road, Boneo
- Wilsons Road, Mornington
- Capel Sound (Local Area Traffic Management)
- Tucks Road / Shands Road, Main Ridge
- Mornington (Local Area Traffic Management)
- Colchester Road & Newington Avenue, Rosebud
We’re now preparing our next round of submissions under the Federal Black Spot Program for 2027-28, and we’re asking residents to help us again.
Acting Mayor Paul Pingiaro said community feedback plays an important supporting role in funding applications.
“When we apply for funding, we need strong evidence. It adds useful context to the data and helps ensure we’re considering the areas of greatest concern.”
“Crash and risk data tells part of the story. Community experience fills in the rest. We want your feedback on the locations we’re proposing to seek road safety grant funding for, this is your chance to help us strengthen the case for improvement.”
The Black Spot Program funds safety upgrades at locations with a history of serious crashes, or where there’s strong evidence a serious crash could occur.
How to provide your thoughts
Community consultation is currently open and closes 3 April 2026.
To prepare the 2027–2028 submissions, an interactive map is now live showing proposed locations. Residents are asked to click on a pink pin and complete a short three question survey explaining their concerns.
