Shire event to help over 55s navigate employment later in life

Residents aged 55 and over who are considering returning to work, changing careers or increasing their working hours are invited to attend Work for Money and Enjoyment.

The free information session is designed to help people explore employment opportunities, understand their options and take their next career step.

Part of this year’s Seniors Festival, the event will be held on Tuesday 27 October at Safety Beach Yacht Club. It will bring together industry experts and support services to provide practical advice on finding work, career transitions, workplace flexibility, resumes, interviews, pensions and available support programs.

The event will feature experts from Services Australia, WISE Employment, Volunteering Victoria, Belgravia Leisure and Chisholm Institute, who will share practical advice on returning to work, training opportunities, volunteering pathways, financial considerations and the value mature-age workers bring to today's workforce.

Mayor Stephen Batty said many older residents have a wealth of skills, knowledge and experience to offer.

"Work for Money and Enjoyment is about helping people understand the opportunities available to them and providing practical advice to support their employment goals,” Cr Batty said.

Participants will hear from the expert panel, ask questions and connect with others exploring similar pathways.

The session will also cover employer expectations, job application processes and the financial considerations of working while receiving a pension or other government support.

The event will conclude with afternoon tea, providing an opportunity to continue conversations and build connections in a relaxed setting.
