Seeking your feedback on our Wastewater Management Plan

You’re invited to provide your thoughts on our draft Onsite Wastewater Management Plan 2024 – 2029.

Onsite wastewater disposal is an important environmental issue, especially on the Mornington Peninsula.

Did you know we have the highest number of wastewater (septic tank) systems of any Victorian council? That’s over 22,000 residential and commercial properties across the Peninsula, who rely on wastewater systems!

Wastewater systems that are not adequately maintained may discharge bacteria and contaminants into the groundwater and surface waters.

The draft Plan ensures wastewater generated within the Shire is managed to:

  • Prevent discharge of wastewater beyond property boundaries.
  • Prevent individual and cumulative impacts on groundwater and surface water.
  • Protect public health.

The Wastewater Management Plan is required to be updated every five years, with the last one adopted in 2018.
