Families across the Mornington Peninsula are invited to celebrate Children’s Week with a program of free and low-cost activities.

Running from 24 October to 1 November, Children’s Week is a national celebration that promotes awareness of children’s rights and encourages children to be seen, heard and celebrated in their communities.

This year’s national theme is based on Article 30 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, recognising that children have the right to use their own language, celebrate their culture and practise their religion.

Mayor Stephen Batty said Children’s Week is an opportunity to celebrate children with a week of free and low-cost events offering plenty of opportunities for families to have fun together.

“Children’s Week is about giving our youngest community members opportunities to connect, explore, learn and have fun with their families,” Cr Batty said.

“There’s something for families right across the Peninsula this Children’s Week. Whether it’s sharing stories, discovering another language or culture, getting active or simply spending time together, it’s a great opportunity to celebrate our children and the community they’re growing up in.”

The program includes Greek, Italian, Spanish and First Nations Storytimes, as well as Family Storytime sessions and pop-up supported playgroups. Children can get involved in outdoor experiences with their grandparents, enjoy recycled art workshops, aquatic activities or a come-and-try session of junior pickleball.

Celebrations kick off on Saturday 24 October, including a Children’s Week Fun Day at Yawa in Rosebud, with family activities, a BBQ, Halloween dress-ups, colouring and a giant obstacle course.

On Wednesday 28 October, The Briars will host a range of activities, including a Family Storytime, pop-up supported playgroup and a hands-on planting workshop where grandparents and grandchildren can learn how to attract more birds, bees and butterflies to their gardens.

The celebrations wrap up on Sunday 1 November with free come-and-try junior pickleball at Somerville Recreation Centre, with no previous experience required.

Children’s Week runs from 24 October to 1 November 2026.
