The proposed works are for the road rehabilitation of the southern section of Mt. Eliza Way between Wendy Avenue and Redbourne Avenue.

The current pavement condition on the southern section of Mt Eliza Way is poor with visible crocodile cracks, potholes and failed sub grade.

In 2021/22, Stage 1 of the rehabilitation of Mt Eliza Way was completed, which included rehabilitation of the northern section: approximately 320m of pavement from the shopping strip to Wendy Avenue.

Stage 2, comprising the southern section of Mount Eliza Way between Wendy Ave and Nepean Highway, was approved for road rehabilitation through Roads to Recovery 2024-29 program.

Scope of works

Mount Eliza Way Road Rehabilitation Stage 2(PDF, 14MB)

Based on the Geotechnical recommendations and identified risks, the following works are proposed:

Road Rehabilitation from kerb to kerb of existing asphalt pavement as follows;
Complete new concrete kerb, drain and paving work (minor near Nepean Hwy intersection)
Profiling of existing pavement makeup to expose sub- base rock layer
Foam bitumen stabilisation of sub-base rock layer
Lay 150mm thickness of Asphalt base and intermediate course
Lay 40mm thickness of Asphalt wearing course
Complete new line marking

Traffic will be managed primarily using shuttle-flow traffic management to ensure local access is maintained for the majority of the works, some queuing behind stop signs will be required. Detour routes will be signposted for buses, larger vehicles and passenger vehicles that would like to avoid queuing.

Works will be expedited to be undertaken over a five-day period including night works to minimise the duration of works and associated impacts to access during construction.

Project timeframe

The first stage of the project includes kerb replacement at the bus stop located at 199 Mount Eliza Way, as well as works on the traffic island between Redbourne Avenue and Nepean Highway. These preliminary works will be carried out under traffic control from Wednesday 4 March and are expected to be completed before the Labour Day long weekend. Minor delays may occur during this period.

Following these initial works, road rehabilitation will commence. To minimise disruption to residents, these works will be completed around the clock, reducing the project duration from approximately four weeks to five days. Subject to favourable weather, this stage is scheduled to begin on Monday 16 March.

Community Engagement

Resident letter box drops are going out about the project, including suitable contact details throughout the construction period. Also advanced notice Variable Message Signboards (VMS) are in place to advise motorists of the upcoming works with the messaging to be updated as works progress to keep motorists informed.
