Background

The Mornington Area Wide Black Spot Project has been funded for construction by the Federal Black Spot Program. The project was awarded $847,200 for road safety improvements on council-managed roads between Dunns Road, Nepean Highway, Mornington-Tyabb Road, and Bentons Road.

The road safety improvements funded for construction include an area-wide 40km/h speed limit reduction, the installation of raised safety platforms, raised crossings and traffic islands.

The Mornington Area Traffic Black Spot Project aims to improve safety and reduce the potential for crash occurrence and severity on the local road network through a combination of traffic calming treatments and a proposed 40km/h and 50km/h limits.

The project is currently in the detailed design stage.

Scope of work includes

  • a series of raised safety platforms
  • raised zebra crossings
  • traffic islands
  • a local area 40km/h speed limit reduction
  • a 50km/h and 40km/h speed limit on Dunns Road and Bentons Road
  • linemarking and signage.
