Overview

The objective of this project is to improve motorcyclist safety through a section of Main Creek Road around the intersections with Old Main Creek Road and Macpherson Lane. This section has been identified as a dangerous site for motorcyclists due to the following factors:

Roadside hazards: Several roadside hazards located on the outside of the roadway on the outer edge of the roadway at some curves which are unprotected, which are a risk for motorcyclists to strike should they exit the carriageway on this curve. Lack of underrun on existing safety barriers increase the severity of run-off-road events for errant motorcyclists due to the risk of motorcyclists sliding into the posts. The end terminals of existing barriers are also a legacy product which presents a spearing hazard.

Signage: Existing CAMs for some curves are in poor condition and do not appear to have been installed at the correct location and spacing as required in AS1742.2, reducing their effectiveness at guiding motorists through the curve
