The purpose of the Coastal Strategy Advisory Committee is to provide Council with advice during the development of the Mornington Peninsula Shire's Our Coast, Our Future - Coastal Strategy.
As the Committee of Management for 64km of Mornington Peninsula’s 192km of coastline, we recognise the importance of local knowledge and community involvement in coastal management decisions.
The group plays a crucial role in advising and assisting the Shire in the use, development, planning, management, protection and enhancement of our coastlines. It serves as a channel for communication between the Shire and the broader community regarding the Coastal Strategy.
The Coastal Strategy Advisory Committee consist of community members with a diverse range of experience and knowledge and operate under a Council-adopted Terms of Reference, Volunteer Policy and Code of Conduct.
The Advisory Committee has up to 28 community representatives, appointed from the previous Coastal Advisory Groups, which cover the Port Phillip Bay and Western Port area. The term is for a maximum of two years or ends upon adoption of the Coastal Strategy by Council.
The group is not responsible for the day-to-day operational issues at the Shire, is not a decision-making committee, and has no responsibility for the Shire Budget.
