The Mornington Peninsula community is invited to gather at Mornington Park on Sunday 13 September from 9am until midday for a special walk of remembrance and reflection. Held in recognition of World Suicide Prevention Day, the event is delivered in partnership between Mornington Peninsula Shire and local organisation Chasing Change. It is now in its eighth year. The walk provides an opportunity for the community to come together, support those impacted by loss and encourage conversations about mental health and wellbeing. The event offers a welcoming space for reflection and community connection. Family, friends and supporters are encouraged to attend and take part. By coming together, we can help create a community where people feel comfortable talking about their mental health, reaching out for support and knowing they are not alone. Mayor Stephen Batty said the annual walk continues to be an important event for the Peninsula community. “This walk is an opportunity to remember those we have lost, come together as a community and remind those that are struggling they are not alone,” Cr Batty said. “Taking the time to check in with someone and ask how they’re really going can make a real difference. For eight years, Mornington Peninsula Shire and Chasing Change have worked together to raise awareness, strengthen connections and support the wellbeing of our community. I encourage residents to join us for this meaningful event and show their support for those who may be doing it tough." Attendees can enjoy acoustic music, community stalls, a sausage sizzle and coffee cart throughout the morning. Community members with lived experience of bereavement will also share their stories alongside a memorial roll call. The morning will conclude with a gentle walk around the perimeter of Mornington Park.
