Somerville Recreation Centre enters an exciting new era

A state-of-the-art gym and wellness centre will soon be launched at the Somerville Recreation Centre!

Set to open early 2027, the redevelopment will significantly enhance the centre’s health, fitness and wellbeing offering, transforming it into a modern, multi-purpose facility designed to support residents of all ages and abilities.

Mornington Peninsula Shire Active members benefit from no lock-in contracts, social sports and access across our five Aquatic and Recreation venues.

The Somerville upgrade will introduce:

• New fully equipped gym spanning approx. 350 square metres, offering 24/7 access
• Personalised exercise programming and support from qualified personal trainers and exercise physiologists
• 45 square metre outdoor training rig
• Small group training spaces
• Broad range of group fitness classes
• Advanced recovery and relaxation amenities, including massage chairs and compression therapy boots
• Cryotherapy float bed, red light therapy and dry float therapy.

Mayor Stephen Batty said that this soon to be launched upgrade will deliver nothing but positives for community.

“These new wellness services are designed to support physical recovery, chronic pain management, improved sleep, mental wellbeing and overall health,” Cr Batty said.

Centre Manager Clare Black said the redevelopment represents more than just new equipment or spaces.

“This project is about creating a welcoming, inclusive environment that supports both physical activity and overall wellbeing. The new gym and wellness centre will allow us to better meet the evolving health needs of our community and encourage more people to be active, connected and supported close to home at a very affordable price point.”

Beek Beek Ward Councillor Kate Roper said that these upgrades form part of a broader commitment to increasing accessible options for community.

”This is an exciting development towards Council’s commitment to Improving health outcomes and revitalising key recreational infrastructure for Western Port communities,” Cr Roper said.
