The Shire is helping students, job seekers and career changers explore careers in local agriculture through a new agricultural careers pathway map, the Future Farmers Pathway Program and a growing suite of industry initiatives.

Developed through the Food Economy and Agroecology Taskforce, the agricultural careers pathway map was created in partnership with the Frankston Mornington Peninsula Local Learning and Employment Network (FMPLLEN), helping strengthen connections between education, industry and employment across the region.

The resource showcases local businesses and career pathways across agriculture, aquaculture, horticulture, viticulture, agribusiness, environmental science and agtech, highlighting the many ways people can build a future in the industry close to home.

Mayor Stephen Batty said supporting the next generation of agricultural workers is critical to the long-term success of the Peninsula's farming and food industries.

"Through industry engagement, education partnerships and career resources, we're connecting people with local training and employment opportunities while helping build the skilled workforce needed for the future of this important industry," Cr Batty said.

Expressions of interest are now open for the 2026 Future Farmers Pathway Training Program, which supports aspiring small-scale regenerative farmers to gain hands-on experience, industry connections and practical skills on local farms. Delivered in partnership with Mornington Peninsula farmers, Agriculture Victoria and Mornington Peninsula Shire, the program helps develop the next generation of food producers and strengthen the region's agricultural workforce.

With 70% of the Mornington Peninsula protected as Green Wedge, the region's $1.3 billion agriculture sector remains a defining part of its economy, environment and identity, generating some of Victoria's highest-value food production per hectare.

The Shire supports sustainable industry growth while protecting the productive land, biodiversity and natural resources that underpin the Peninsula's future prosperity.
