It’s on! This September for Biodiversity Month, we’re going head-to-head with other councils to see who can snap the most plants, animals and fungi – and we need your help to win!

Join the BioBlitz – be your own backyard David Attenborough
All month long, we’re on a mission to find and photograph as many species as possible using the free iNaturalist app. Spotted a kookaburra? Click. Found a weird mushroom? Snap it. Discovered a beetle with funny eyes? Straight to the app. Every upload counts towards our tally.

How do I get involved?
Follow these steps to join in the fun and help the Peninsula climb the leaderboard:

  1. Download the free iNaturalist app on your smartphone.
  2. Sign up to create your profile (or log in if you already have one).
  3. From 1 September, head out into nature, take photos of your plant, animal, or fungi finds, and upload them to the app.
  4. Your observations will automatically be added to the Mornington Peninsula BioBlitz 2025 project tally on iNaturalist.

Quotes attributable to Mayor Councillor Anthony Marsh:

“This is a great chance to show off the Peninsula’s unique wildlife and natural beauty. Every photo you upload helps put us ahead on the leaderboard and highlights the amazing biodiversity of the Mornington Peninsula. Let’s get out there, have some fun, and bring the top spot home.”
