Project Summary

The Sorrento Museum requires additional storage facilities to ensure the preservation and storage of heritage artefacts on the Mornington Peninsula.

The Sorrento Museum Storage Addition project is being delivered by the Nepean Historical Society (NHS), the long-term tenant of the heritage-listed site, being supported by Council’s project team. This project will deliver essential upgrades to the museum’s infrastructure, improved storage and work areas, and sustainability features such as solar panels and battery.

Project Timeline

Stage 1 – Complete (2025)

Funding agreement creation and executed between the Mornington Peninsula Shire and the Nepean Historical Society.

Creation and adoption of the project priority scope list to meet needs of the NHS.

Stage 2 – Complete (2026)

External (historical building) renewal works.

Stage 3 – Current Works (2026)

Cultural Heritage Investigation and Report

Town Planning and Shire approval to undertake the storeroom addition works

Extension of the South East Water sewer main to allow connection and upgrade of the facility to the main sewer system

 

The project works are due for completion by mid-2027.
