Mount Eliza: Landfill Capping Rehabilitation Works

The Mount Eliza Regional Park (Northern and Southern areas) are currently open to the public and used as open space parks by the community.

The site was used as a landfill for disposal of inert and putrescible waste from 1970’s to mid-1990’s. There is no current license, however the site was subject to an initial Pollution Abatement Notice (PAN) No. 3404 dated 9 May 2003.The PAN system has been replaced by EPA to Environmental Action Notice (EAN). Council must rehabilitate the site as per EAN notice, for the notice to be rescinded by EPA.

The aim of the project is to rehabilitate the landfill cap and stormwater system in the North and South Regional Parks including:

  • Increasing the Landfill Cap
  • Stormwater Swale and Outfall Construction
  • Landscaping and Revegetation
  • Management of Landscaping & Revegetation for period in the CQA document

Status:

  • Site stripped, levelled and compacted
  • Geosynthetic Clay Liner laid on South Regional Park and topped with topsoil
  • Level 2 cap repairs complete in South Regional and North Regional Park
  • Road construction commencement in North Regional Park
  • Civil works have been finalised
  • Hydroseeding completed
  • Final surveys have been completed to meet CQA requirements along with Hydroseeding.
