A variety of signage types are used across the Shire for different purposes.
Common sign types
A-frame signs
A-frame signs placed on footpaths are considered a commercial activity and require a permit. This ensures businesses can use public space while maintaining community safety. To apply for an A-frame permit, visit Footpath Trading.
Advertising signs
Advertising signs may be either movable or fixed.
- Movable advertising signs are defined under the Local Law Permits
- Fixed advertising signs, including commercial signs mounted on vehicles or trailers, are defined under the Mornington Peninsula Planning Scheme.
Business signage
Requirements for business signage depend on your property’s location, the size of the site and the design of the proposed sign. Contact the Planning Department to discuss what may be suitable for your property.
Directional and wayfinding
Directional and tourism signs help guide visitors to key locations and attractions, see: Directional and Tourism (Way Finder) Signage
Political campaign signage
For rules and requirements relating to political campaign signs, refer to the Signage Policy.
Real estate signage
Real estate signs do not require a permit, but must be placed on private property and comply with both the Planning Scheme and the Signage Policy.
