Do I live in a termite prone area?

The entire Morningnton Peninsula Shire has been determined and designated as subject to infestation by termites, in accordance with Regulation 150 of the Building Regulations 2018.

All new houses within the Mornington Peninsula Shire, including extensions, must have some form of termite management in accordance with Australian Standard AS 3660.1. The only exceptions apply to detached Class 10 buildings, such as a shed, garage or carport.

The two termite management options include:

  1. The use of termite resistant materials for the primary structural elements
  2. The installation of a chemical or physical barrier system

Termite protection requires ongoing maintenance to remain effective. If you are unsure of the status of your termite management system, we recommend engaging a termite expert to conduct a full inspection. It is a good idea to engage professionals to manage the ongoing maintenance of your termite management system.
