Key achievements 2024- 2025

Reducing Emissions and Energy Costs

  • We completed our 12-month ‘Virtual Energy Network (VEN)’ pilot. Which was successful and indicates potential for significant annual operating savings.
  •  Upgraded 20 Foreshore Amenity blocks with high efficiency hot water heat pumps.
  • We updated our standards on EV charging, Solar PV & Battery and Hot Water Heating for Shire buildings,.
  • We delivered the first year of sustainability actions our Community Asset Maintenance Services contracts,
  • We completed our ‘Municipal Major Roads Streetlight Upgrade’ project, which will result in an annual saving of over $500,000 and avoid approx. 575 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions every year.
  •  540 free, Shire-funded SunSpot solar assessments were completed.
  • 26+ businesses were involved in our ‘Trim Your Bin’ program, with 841 tonnes of reduced, avoided or recycled waste and business savings of $155,000.
  •  We collected and diverted from landfill almost 21,066 tonnes of mixed FOGO material from 22,794 participating households.

Supporting High Priority Populations
  • We awarded 53 Energy Support Grants to support low-income residents (largely pensioners) to invest in household energy efficient upgrades. and an additional 10 household energy upgrades through the Climate Safe Homes program.
  • We advocated to State and Federal government increased support for vulnerable community members to build resilience to climate change.

Building Community Capacity

  • We delivered the Flinders Community Battery, the first non-network owned community battery delivered in Australia under the Community Batteries for Household Solar program
  • We awarded a total of $114,491 through Climate Action Grants to 21 community-led initiatives, now totalling $456,782 across 80 projects.
  • Our ‘Schools Sustainability Education’ program won the Keep Australia Beautiful Victoria Tidy Town Behaviour Change and Education Award. In 2024/2025, this program educated a further 1,505 students.
  • We partnered with Ceres to host the third annual Student Environmental Leadership Summit, which was attended by 120 students from across the Mornington Peninsula.
  • We engaged with 1,285 community members through our Community Sustainability Education activities, including workshops, webinars and events.
  • Hosted 7 community events to play The Adaptation Game to build community resilience
  • Delivery of energy efficiency education to businesses through supporting 55 assessments of Best Bites businesses and supporting the Business Excellence Summit.
