Safer local roads and streets program - projects
These projects are funded by the Victorian Government through the Safe Local Roads and Streets Program, which provides $214 million to make local roads safer across Victoria.
The Department of Transport and Planning, in partnership with the Transport Accident Commission, have developed the Safe Local Roads and Streets Program to support the development and delivery of road safety infrastructure projects on local roads.
These projects have been identified and prioritised based on crash history over the past ten years, risk of future crashes, community concerns raised in recent years and the benefit of possible treatments relative to the cost.
In 2026, this program will deliver up to $2 million of road safety improvements in the Mornington Peninsula Shire.
Works include
Compact Roundabouts in Dromana and Rosebud
Roundabouts are one of the safest types of intersections because they slow the flow of traffic and guide vehicles in one direction, reducing the risk and severity of crashes.
Locations: Keogh and Potton streets, Rosebud; Hodgkinson and Heales streets, Dromana and Ligar and Heales Street, Dromana.
Detailed design: Keogh & Potton and Hodgkinson & Heales roundabout projects (SLRSP)
Speed reducing treatments in Dromana and Mount Eliza
Raised safety platforms slow vehicle speeds, to reduce the risk of crashes in busy pedestrian areas, residential streets and around intersections. They also create calmer, quieter and more walkable neighbourhoods. Locations: Woodlands, Mount Eliza, Watson Avenue, Dromana and a raised intersection at Dromana Avenue and Covery Avenue, Dromana.

Pedestrian crossing and footpaths in Rye
Raised pedestrian crossings, also known as wombat crossings, make it safer for people to cross the road by making them more visible to drivers, and slowing approaching vehicles down. Location: Marcia Avenue and Tasman Drive in Rye
