Dying to Know Day
The Shire’s Positive Ageing Team led the establishment of a “Dying to Know Network” made up of community representatives with a specific interest in death and dying. The Dying to Know Day initiative is a key action of the Shire’s We All Belong Strategy 2024-2029 - Mornington Peninsula Shire. Members of the Shire community advocated for conversations, compassion and knowledge about death and dying.
The purpose of the network is to collaborate on the planning of an annual event held around the time of the annual “Dying to Know Day” in August. Dying to Know Day is a campaign aimed at normalising conversations around death, dying, and bereavement. The campaign aims to reduce the stigma around the topic of death and dying and to inspire individuals to talk openly with their loved ones about their final arrangements with others.
Planning for your future and discussing your end-of-life plans with family and friends removes the guesswork for those around you. It makes sure they know what to do in your final stages of life so that you die in line with your values, culture and wishes.
